WLAN Security Products Review
>> continued from previous page

In an informal Network Computing survey, 5,000 readers were asked to respond to a number of questions about wireless security. Of those surveyed, 4.8 percent responded.

If you have comments or questions about our e-poll, please send an e-mail to webmaster@nwc.com.

  1. How would you describe your organization's policy on WLAN deployment?

  2. Do you require user authentication (such as an ID/password, smartcard)?

  3. Do you require privacy (robust encryption of network data transmissions)?

  4. Do you require access control (ability to impose network access restrictions on users and/or groups)?

  5. Do you require accurate usage accounting for billing/charge back?

  6. Even if someone told me that a WLAN is secure, I'd be more careful using it to send confidential information than I would using a wired LAN.

  7. I'm willing to accept a little less security in exchange for the benefits of wireless network access.

  8. When I purchase wireless infrastructure devices, I should be able to implement a secure network without having to turn to third-party security software/hardware systems.
