In-test Interview
Follow Don MacVittie as he evaluates Enterprise Application Integration. Between now and August, when we publish Don's test results, you can access his preliminary findings and anecdotal experiences. You can also ask Don questions via our Shop Talk Forum.

Here's what Don has on tap for this project.

  • Project Objective: We will consider products offering enterprise-class integration tools, including GUI tools, programmable APIs, multiple commit transactions, XML support, multiple operating system and database support, a management interface and multiple sources and/or destinations for updates.
  • Test Location: Testing will take place in our NWC Inc. Real-World Labs in Green Bay, Wisc.
  • Test Criteria
    1. Transactions per second--failed and successful
    2. Response time
    3. GUI capabilities
    4. API, OS and database support
    5. Price
    6. Features
  • Test Objectives: This test will pit each product head-to-head for comparisons of ability to integrate Microsoft, IBM and Oracle databases running on multiple platforms. Also considered will be the ability to create transactions and transformations through a GUI as well as support for XML. Plus, ease of management, level of performance and actual response time in comparison to other vendors will play a part in the grading of each product.
  • Product Requirements:
    1. Support multiple operating systems
    2. Support at least the top three database vendors
    3. Have a GUI for the creation of transactions and transformations
    4. Have bus, hub-and-spoke or equivalent architecture
    5. Have a management interface that can be reviewed for suitability to task
