Chris PieremanKnowledge systems engineer

At Work: Helped define requirements and processes for implementing NKO; supports ongoing business operations of NKO and NPDC; consults NPDC on applying KM and collaborative methodologies to naval training

At Home: 45 years old. Married, two children. Hobbies include photography, bicycling and genealogy

Alma Mater: Florida Institute of Technology, M.S. in systems management; St. Leo College (Fla.), B.A. in business administration

How He Got Here:

2002-to present: Lead systems analyst, Anteon Corp.

1978-2002: Rose to enlisted rank of master chief electronics technician, U.S. Navy

Mouthing Off:

The most misunderstood aspect of being a sailor: "The personal sacrifices one has to make for a life of the sea. And the hardships one endures while at sea."

My favorite naval vessel: "The aircraft carrier. It is the visual exemplification of maritime power projection in all its terrible glory."

How NKO will change the Navy: "We will finally be able to leverage the one true, untapped resource in the Navy--the knowledge that resides within its sailors."

If I could do anything over with the NKO project: "I would have pursued enterprise e-mail from the very beginning of NKO's inception."

IT people need to understand: "Technology comes after the needs of people and the requirements of the processes, not before."
