Donald Bryson Biography Page

I've had a fun life. I studied classical guitar from a concert classical guitarist (Mario Abril), studied Jazz from Berklee, taught guitar for ten years, produced jingles for the Chattanooga market, and worked on the air at an AM radio station. I still love music and occasionally find the time to compose under an assumed name. I have a BA in Mass Communications from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, a certificate in music compositon from Berklee, and a diploma from the Berean School of the Bible.

I'm still having fun even after my wife made me to get a real job. Seriously, my computer projects feel like a logical continuation of my music activities. Creativity is the same regardless of the medium. Don't believe me? Survey how many muse refugees are in a room full of hackers -- you'll be surprised.

My first commercial program, a clone of the Unix pr command, was published by IDG Communications in their disk supplement to AmigaWorld. It was published six months after I typed my first line of code -- the obligatory ``Hello World'' program. Even after all the years since Pavlov, hunger is still the best learning tool. I program in assembler, C, C++, VisualBASIC, and virtually every scripting language found in a Unix box. I've written programs for MS-DOS, Unix, Xenix, AIX, Linux, Windows 3.X, and Windows 95. I am the author of TimeClock, TimeClock Lyte, Property Presentation System, DbDelta, BryShell, and BryProto.

I have administered systems running Xenix, SCO Unix, PrimOS, and VMS. I have written articles for several national magazines. After losing a coin-toss with the other principal stockholder, I am now the reluctant president and CEO of Quality Software Solutions, Inc. He can be found at the golf course.
